Requirements to attend this course are as follows:
  • Must be an ISIS member.
  • Fellow and Resident members are required to attend an ISIS Lumbar bio-skills lab prior to taking advanced courses.
  • Must be board certified or eligible in the following specialties: Anesthesiology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Radiology, Neurology, Orthopedic Surgery and Neurosurgery.
  • Members who are not board certified or eligible in these specialties must have completed or be currently enrolled in an ACGME Pain Fellowship and begin at the Lumbar level. 

This course is designed to provide participants an understanding of the "hidden” implications of an evidence-based approach to spine care and unique exposure to the anatomical basis upon which spinal interventions are based.

In small groups, attendees will rotate through three stations: Anatomy, Radiology, Indications and Complications.

During this 21 hour course the following lectures and stations will include: 

  • Correlative cervical and lumbar spinal gross anatomy, radiological and fluoroscopic imaging
  • In-depth review of the anatomy, physiology and neuropathophysiology of spine pain
  • Anatomical basis for spinal procedures, complications, and mechanisms of minimizing risk
  • Three-dimensional soft tissue, neurological and osseous cervical and lumbar spinal anatomy

This course is not designed to teach specific spinal interventions.
