The purpose of this course is to allow attendees an opportunity to learn from spine radiologists in a case-based setting which is more reflective of a typical radiology interpretive environment. Four or five attendees will cluster about a workstation with one of the instructors as numerous spine cases are presented. There is a big difference between seeing a radiologic finding ideally cropped and identified on a PowerPoint slide and detecting it on one of the hundreds of images that constitute the typical CT or MRI spine examination. This will provide an opportunity to observe how radiologists systematically examine large data sets, filter out extraneous information, and focus on critical findings. The cases will emphasize normal anatomy, normal variants which may simulate disease, and degenerative phenomena which may be associated with typical axial and radicular pain syndromes. Attendees will rotate among the instructors to experience their varying approaches to spine imaging.
