In addition to the decisions on the payment for epidural interlaminar injections, CMS accepted the value that was proposed by the RUC for the fluoroscopy guidance code 77003. ISIS led the work on the survey of this code and was heavily involved in the presentation to the RUC. The RUC agreed with the specialty society recommendations that the code should keep the current physician work value of 0.60 RVUs. We are pleased that CMS accepted these recommendations.
Another item of interest to some ISIS members is the announcement that the practice expense value of the ultrasound guidance code by CMS were the ultrasound guidance code 76942 was lowered to reflect current practice which is the utilization of a mobile device and code and is awaiting the RUC review of the physician work value of this code.
Additionally, changes are being made to code 63650 (Percutaneous implantation of electrode array, epidural). After receiving an outside request, CMS asked the RUC to evaluate the code for use in an office setting and, as such, the practice components needed to be valued. Implantation of electrode array will no longer be separately billable.
