Medicare 21% Cuts Averted - a 2.2% Increase in Place for 6 Months

Posted By Administration, Wednesday, January 25, 2012

On June 25, President Obama signed a bill, passed by the House of Representatives, to avert the 21% physician Medicare payment reduction which went into effect on June 1st, 2010. The legislation also provides a 6 month, temporary, 2.2% increase for physician payments, effective from June 1st, 2010 to November 30th 2010. Medicare contractors already started processing the claims with the 21% reduction; but now the physicians are supposed to receive a payment adjustment for those claims. The physician community is relieved by the fact that they will not see a 21.3 % reduction in their Medicare payments, but outraged by the ongoing battles for temporary legislative fixes. ISIS supports efforts to create a long-term fix of the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula to achieve stability in physician payment levels.
