There are five members on the research committee including the chair. The chair will serve a one-year term with the ability to be re-elected by the board. Each committee member will be elected yearly and at the discretion of the research chair. If a research grant application is submitted by a research committee member then he/she is excluded from its review process.
ISIS Research Committee may grant money for original research that is to be performed and not currently in progress or completed. All applicants must be ISIS members.
ISIS may make available $50,000 per year per grant for research. If grant applications are of insufficient merit then no money need be granted that year. Multiple grants may be granted per year.
All grant applications for that calendar year should be submitted by May 1st or November 1. If that year's grant money is not awarded after this first deadline then grant applications can continue to be received for that calendar year until the monies are consumed for that fiscal year. If after initial review of applications the Research Committee requests additional information, applications will be returned to the applicant for clarification. Applicants will be given two weeks to provide responses to the committee.
Application proposals that involve human or animal subjects must be approved by an appropriate Institutional Review Board (IRB). The research findings must be presented at the first annual ISIS meeting after the study is completed and final results analyzed. It is expected that the results be published in a peer-reviewed journal. Due acknowledgment should be given to ISIS for grant funding in all publications.
ISIS does not pay institutional overhead (indirect costs) for this grant. Applications are to be reviewed and approved by the applicant’s institution prior to submission. A statement and signature from the institution is required indicating that they are fully aware that institutional overhead will not be paid for by ISIS for this grant.
After the submission deadline the grant applications will be reviewed by the committee members and the chair. If multiple applications are received the proposal(s) with the highest scores will be granted funding, if deemed appropriate. Telephone conferencing may be necessary to decide award recipients when multiple quality proposals are received with the best proposal(s) awarded by majority vote. The award winner(s) will be notified directly after the board meets in January and July of each year. Submissions after the deadline dates will be held for review until the next session.
Applications will be reviewed by the ISIS Research Committee using a 100 point scoring system. Proposals are evaluated on scientific merit (10 points), significance (15 points), originality (10 points), methodology (40 points), abstract and background information (10 points), personal and institutional track record (5 points), and feasibility (10 points).
For projects provided funding semi?annual progress reports must be submitted to the chief operating officer of ISIS which will then be distributed to the research committee and members of the board. If a multi-year project is proposed, only funding for year one (1) will be distributed in year one.
Applications must be in quadruplicate and typed in 12 point font. Included with the application form IRB materials, outcome tools and consent form.
